• ECO-SCAVENGER HUNT - led by Naturalists from Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, BNAN, Department of Conservation and Recreation

• TIDAL POOL EXHIBIT - from New England Aquarium Do you know what a sea urchin eats and what eats a sea urchin? Program allows participants to interact with live tidal pool animals from local waters.

• DORCHESTER HISTORICAL SOCIETY BOOTH - with old maps and photos of Dorchester’s rich maritime history. Pose behind cut-out of beach goers from the 40’s and take home a souvenir photo.

• FRANKLIN PARK ZOO EXHIBIT - with live animals

• MEET STORMY - a giant 15’ duck that will teach you how to keep our water blue.

• SIDEWALK CHALK DRAWING - Draw Creatures from “Under the Sea”

• KITE DECORATING AND FLYING - Create colorful kites that will soar over the Bay

• FACE PAINTING - Transform the kiddies into fish and marine creatures.

• LIFE GUARD DEMONSTRATION - Watch youths from Dorchester House’s Guard Start Program demonstrate rescues and life guarding techniques.

• LOCAL INDIAN LORE WITH JAMES HOBIN - Artist, James Hobin reflects on the history behind his Savin Hill Mural that depicts a summer encampment of the Neponset Indian Tribe.

• VOLLEYBALL DEMOS & LESSONS - Learn to play volleyball or sharpen your skills with athletes from UMASS Boston.

• MARITIME HISTORY OF DORCHESTER - Master Mariner, Coast Guard Auxiliarist and Author of the book, Coastal Navigation using GPS for Sail and Power, Frank Larkin gives frequent short talks on Dorchester’s rich maritime history. 

• CHECK OUT COASTIE - The US Coast Guard Auxiliarists’ animated robotic tugboat interacts with children to teach rules about water safety.  Coastie has real navigation lights, a searchlight, rotating beacon, siren and air horn.  His eyes and eyelids move but look out he has his own built-in squirt gun!

•  ‘BEACH BOUNCE’  The Dorchester Beach Festival renamed the ever popular moon bounce for our event.

• FEED BOSTON’S BIG BELLY - Try Boston’s solar compacting trash receptacle.  the big belly can handle 5x the trash in the same space, eliminating costs associated with frequent pickups.  Toss in some trash and feed Boston’s big belly!

• TAKE THE PLEDGE! -   Participate in Mayor Menino’s Climate Action Pledge and receive a free energy efficient light bulb via mail.  Learn how you can make a difference to reduce effects of climate change.

• JOHN F. KENNEDY PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM -  Learn about JFK’s love of the sea & view exhibit.

• LEARN ABOUT RESTORING THE NEPONSET RIVER - Visit the Neponset River Watershed Association’s Booth to learn about the significance of watershed conservation.

• COASTSWEEP PROGRAM - Stop by UMASS Urban Harbor’s Institute’s booth to learn about the coastsweeps.  Celebrating 20 years of annual coastal cleanups.

• RECYCLING OVERVIEW - Register to receive FREE recycling bin (City of Boston residents only).  Watch recycling demo, see display of goods made from your discarded items.

  • MAGIC 106.7 FM - Visit the Magic 106.7 FM booth to score some giveaways and learn about their programming.

  • CONNECT THE DOTS GAME - Stop by the Dorchester Social Capital Inc. table to pick-up your connect the dots game card.  Learn about civic engagement while competing for great prizes.
